"A warm-up gig for Marillion at Chelsea College - not sure which one - Imperial? It was along the King's Road anyway. We got in
for free - all you needed was a flyer, which we photocopied a few times and we were in. It was a fun gig. I recall Fish trying some early bodysurfing, which didn't quite come off. The crowd just got out of the way when they saw this massive Scot hurtling towards them."

"Marillion played at The Sugarhouse on 12.04.1983, not Lancaster Unversity as it was shut for half term (?) holidays.
Setlist as Shefield 13.04.1983. Support Peter Hamill. I was there!
I'm sad to say i havent got a ticket for this or the following years gig at Lancaster University as the staff took them off us when we went in.
I remember at the Sugarhouse gig that Steve R. kept playing Country & Western riffs between songs. Fish told the crowd that Steve had recently bought a Country & Western songbook and was learning the songs. At one point during the gig the band sat in a circle around Steve and clapped in time whilst he played a tune."

"Due to new city by-laws for noise the band come on an unannounced 30 minutes early. When they took the stage only 100 or so seats in the 4000 seat venue were full." Thanks to Terry Blake

"I was at the '83 show in Toronto (opening for Utopia) with Andy Ward on drums. Ward seemed out of sorts, in fact at one point he left the stage thinking the show was over only to run back to his kit for another song. The crowd had maybe 50-100 people. Fish in a gray sweat shirt and yellow faded sweat pants with grease paint commented on Asia playing across town and "...what a fuckin' boring time those people are having!" Everyone laughed and cheered - classic Fish and at one point he walked out in the crowd on the empty seats on the row in front of me and nearly slipped! I actually reached out to break his fall, but he made it - working his way through the rest of the crowd."

Introducing Ian Mosley - 27.10.-30.10.1983 - Wales/England - 4 Shows (3/4)

27.10.1983 - College - Aberystwyth, Wales
"After the Aberystwyth concert I do remember going backstage and ending up in a hotel room drinking with the big man and some others but I was very young and fresh at the time and don't remember too much of it - and I never did get to ask him why that great riff from Assassing, which they played at Reading, was dropped from later versions! Someone else must have enquired about this before - any clues?"
Thanks to Harvey Osler
